What do your rep links do?
What is the single most important thing that rep links do in your organization?

Holacracy History Question
I'm curious to know why the Circle Member Role was written out of the Constitution -- it appears to be after Constitution 2.0 ver. 1 . This role seemed to encourage some collaboration and teamwork that isn't explicitly required in 4.1. Thanks!

Facilitator Circle Audits
Hi all, As you know, the facilitator role is accountable for "auditing the meetings and records of sub-circles . . ." Does anyone have a template for doing this? In particular, I'd love to have: A template document for the facilitator to fill out detailing his/her findings Best practices or tips ...

Structure Statistics
Hello, community! In "Beyond the Holacracy Hype," (link below), the authors said that Zappos employees, on average, fill 7.4 roles and are in 4.1 circles. This made me curious about ARCA and others practicing Holacracy. Here's simple stats for ARCA: Practicing since: 2014 # of Practitioners: 479 ...

Medium moving beyond Holacracy - Lessons ?
I'm most interested in the Medium post's comment about communal ownership. As quoted by @Dien:"More importantly, we found that the act of codifying responsibilities in explicit detail hindered a proactive attitude and sense of communal ownership."I believe we have at times struggled with the sam...

Medium moving beyond Holacracy - Lessons ?
@Brian - Thanks for the reply. I think your suggestions regarding Strategies and whole-circle ownership are both things we have done a good job of using informally but a bad job of formalizing and making clear. That deficiency probably makes the process less repeatable and harder to learn from....

Reusable roles
We have a large number of circles and frequently see the repeated role issue, particularly for internally focused team specialists (ERP Expert, Lean Practices Champion, etc.). It makes our records look a little sloppy, but I think the alternative--a centralized repository--may discourage evoluti...

Time as a domain
To echo something Karilen said and expand slightly: I think it's far better to have a policy that you think is questionable -- and perhaps designed only for your period of transition -- than to have a tacit understanding that people will/should ask permission but fail to codify that understandin...

Responsibilities of Role Filling
Yes! I think training in this area is critical for any organization running Holacracy. Without training on GTD methodology, you'll have trouble getting people to effectively leverage the system and maintain productivity as they transition to self-management. We have a couple of roles responsib...

3.3.6 INTEGRATIVE ELECTION PROCESS
Cobus,I don't mind that the burden is on the facilitator, but I do wish that the tiebreaking process provided fewer options. Even if the facilitator can do it by any of those methods, her selection of a particular method will in most cases have an effect on the ultimate proposal because he knows...

Holiday / Sickness Cover
I agree with both Jean-Michel and Margaux. Best to attack this through governance, and the possiblities are endless. You could even have a "Backup" role accountable for "Performing the accountabilities of roles x, y, and z on a short-term basis in the event of holiday or sick leave of the prima...

Facilitator Circle Audits
Dien,Where are you located? Gerald is in central Europe, so we'd probably target something in the neighborhood of 12pm ET / 6pm CET. Send me a private message if interested.Kevin

Incomplete Role
Tyler,Interesting question. We see this pop up at ARCA from time to time. I think the role in question meets the technical definition of a role pretty clearly. As it stands, it is basically a parking lot for exclusive ownership of the domain granted to it, but it does not do anything else. To me,...

Holacracy Anchoring App
This is great - love the storyteller role from an internal marketing perspective, also.

Can I include a condition in a domain ?
Xavier,I think I interpret 2.1.3 the same way you do with regard to a Domain + Policy situation. The key sentence to me is this one:However, the Circle retains the right to amend or remove that Domain delegation, or to define or modify Policies that further grant or constrain the Role’s authorit...

Remove Rep Link
Tyler,I think a GlassFrog workaround is to "elect" someone to that role who you can then delete from your organization. This should leave the role unfilled. Or, you could create a member of the organization called "Intentionally Unfilled" and elect that account member to the role of rep link. ...

Using Rep-Link vs. direct tension solving
Another approach might be to just cut out some steps. What if the Project Manager reached out directly to LL or RL of Level 2, or to LL or another role within Level 1, asking if they sensed the same tension and would be willing to act on it in Level 1 governance? I suggest this not as an attemp...

Lead Link vs Governance
I agree with Bernard Marie. I have interpreted that accountability of the LL as an ongoing responsibility to evaluate the circle's structure and make proposals as needed to ensure the circle stays aligned to its purpose and accountabilities. This is particularly important when the circle, once...

Lead Link vs Governance
[@mention:508243854762339714] Wow, that's a lot to unpack. I'm going to follow your bullet points in a quick-hit response and Bernard-Marie or others may have their own thoughts.Bullet #1 - Got itBullet #2 - This sounds like it may be a bad structure. Circle 2's accountabilities do not need to ...

Policy About Vacation
[@mention:549059653907130620] Just thought I'd weigh in to say I appreciate the topic and the confusion. We often blur (or blow past) this line in order to adopt common-sense policies that govern people in addition to roles. As much as anything, I think it's in large part because the governance p...
