Cross-Link - good, bad and ugly
Since launching Holacracy, we have avoided the use of the Cross Link Role/Policy. In cases where circles felt the need to be better connected/aligned with other Circles, they have created liaison/advisor roles. This has seemed to work well so far. At some point, I'm sure we will likely have a Cir...

Yes. Policies set at the super-circle level impact all roles or sub-circles within the super-circle.
Project / Duty To Process
Hi Keith, Ideally, the role-holder that accepted the project would recognize the need for additional resources and work with the appropriate role/roles (most likely the Lead Link) to get the additional resources needed to complete the project. The role-holder should also be able to recognize the ...

Strategy Evolution in Holacracy
Daesun,One of the Lead Link accountabilities is to establish priorities and Strategies for the Circle. In Holacracy, Strategies are heuristics (think rule of thumb or one good thing even over another good thing) that guide the Circle's Roles in self-identifying priorities on an ongoing basis (2.2...

Holacracy Terminology Global Challenge
Our Italian version of the Constitution contains a glossary of terms. I'm not sure how to post it, but would be willing to share with anyone that would like to see it.

OKRs and Holacracy
Hi Frederick,Chris Cowan touched on these issues in a similar post, with supporting references from Frederic Laloux's - Reinventing Organizations. Take a look and see if it helps.https://community-archive.holacracy.org...6#457434583576579736Best,- Dennis

Process Breakdown in the Anchor Circle
David,Perhaps you can share with an example of the process you have experienced, or expect to see.... it would help if we better understand the Tension at hand.

Process Breakdown in the Anchor Circle
Here is my take - may not be completely accurate, but seems logical enough to my way of thinking.According to the Constitution V. 4.1, A “Process Breakdown” occurs when a Circle shows a pattern of behavior that conflicts with the rules of this Constitution. Two types of Process Breakdown are descr...

Art. 2.3.3 Exclusion for minor allocations
Demetrio,I offer the following policy as an example of how this was handled in one of our Circles. I am curious to hear feedback from the Community. Policy: Key User Role RepresentationIt is a policy of this circle that individuals assigned to the Business Process Owner role shall also be assign...

Medium moving beyond Holacracy - Lessons ?
@Rob Thorpe - I'd like to hear more about the "attention points system" mentioned in your post. What is the system and what tension did it address.

Going Without A Lead Link
Paul,How is the circle represented in the broader circle?Thanks,- Dennis

Objection about resources allocation
@Fred. From my perspective, the criteria were not relaxed (in the example), rather the Lead Link was able to express why/how the proposal would cause harm or move the circle backward (i.e. creation of a role that couldn't possibly be filled, regardless of the resources available).

Going Without A Lead Link
Paul,In addition to sharing the Governance that was enacted to support the experiment, I would be interested in hearing how the Holacracy Circle is represented in the broader Circle. To Karilen's point, the LL is the catch-all for any and all work that has yet to be defined in a role within the ...

Objection about resources allocation
@Eric, great example. I can see several ways the objection could be managed in the integration round... i.e. split the work into several roles so that the lead link could fill. It is often easier to validate an objection and trust the process to resolve the issue in the integration round.- Den...

How do you break projects among roles ?
Giuseppe,The subtle, but important, difference in Chris' and Jean-Michel's example is that the project owner is managing the work, not the roles. Roles with clear accountabilities that allow others in the organization what to expect from the role-filler.Additionally, as you know, role-fillers ar...

Questions about Governance Facilitation
Hi Davi,I offer the following:Point 1) - Generally speaking, and this may vary depending how far along the circle is on their journey, you want to stay neutral and follow the process steps.... checkin - get present, call out distractions, etc - get through administrative concerns and guide the ...

Time as a domain
Ideally, a team member should be able to fill roles based on the alignment of role to their talent (i.e. what they can contribute to the organization). This becomes an issue if a role requires a certain amount of energy (i.e. time) from a role-filler to meet the needs of the organization, then t...

Time as a domain
Carrie,In my example, we instituted a Policy at the GCC to restrict team members in certain cases from filling more than x-number of roles. The Policy was enacted based on a tension created around resource allocation and certain team members ability to fully energize their primary (core roles).T...

Cross-Link - good, bad and ugly
Hi Gerald,We were advised early in our Holacracy practice to shy away from cross links for fear that they may pop up all over the organization. Additionally, the analogy used was that of allowing your neighbor to come into your house and rearrange your furniture (which did not seem like a great...

Circle Interference
Hi, Margaux,I think you are fine in requiring sub-Circles to have a specific role. We had a similar need (i.e. tension) that required sub-circles of our Operations Circle to have a role within their circles to act as an SAP Key User. We did not enact a policy, rather an accountability was added ...

Project updates in tactical
Hi Marco,As a general rule, I will ask each role-filler to provide an update on their projects and remind them that the update should be restricted to any changes or updates since our last Tactical meeting. What are resources versus Domain?
Wayne,Great question. I will take a stab at a possible tension around office space might be resolved.Tension: People keep moving around and Facilities Caretaker (Role) has no idea when groups/people move from one area to the next.A possible way to resolve in Governance.Propose that the Domain (t...

Objecting to unclear accountability
+1 [@mention:455886150941203371] "Finally, if your role is impacted, but the tension isn't caused by the proposal itself (because at least it's a step forward in clarity as it is), then you don't need an objection to fix it. Just add your own agenda item and ask for it to go next. ; ) "
