"Global" Policies
Hey, Has anyone of you experiences with policies that are based on external prerequisites (e.g. external audits, quality certifications, kind of „behavioral guidelines“ etc.) and need to be valid for the entire organisation? Anyone ideas on good governance for that without harming circle boundari...

The role of works council
We are facing the question of how to deal with works council in Holacracy, which is a very relevant question in Germany and Austria - I would assume in Italy and France as well. Ultimately it is clear that there is no real need to have a works council in Orgs operating in Holacracy. However, what...

Holacracy Book in German
Hi Folks! I'd like to announche the launch of the German Holacracy Book , for which I was invited to write the foreword. There is also a video chat with Brian to frame it a bit and announce the book - you might have a look at it. On! On! Gerald

"Global" Policies
Hi guys, thanks for your thoughts, very helpful. I guess the best way forward I figured out is twofold: there are aspects of global policies that are more general expectations and seem to fit better in a membership agreement (or labour contract). Apart from that I like the way of having a Domain o...

Process breakdown in an integration phase
Hey Alexey,We have come across this process breakdown and I do see it as a last resort. At that point I found it very helpful - otherwise we would have got stuck in power play showing up in back-and-forth discussions - seeking integration but not getting there because the willingness to seek inte...

Questions about Governance Facilitation
Hi Davi,3) yes, your questions are "constitutionally correct". I just mean that there is a nuance to how you make use of that questions as Facilitator. Especially in early stages, my experience is, we want to encourage people to bring their tensions and process them. If they feel "in front of the...

Questions about Governance Facilitation
Hi Davi, find my thoughts and experiences below.ad 1) I do use some time to frame the session right at the very beginning even before entering into check-in. for early-practice circles that seems very helpful in my impression. for me it is also about building a connection and helping people to fee...

Questions about Governance Facilitation
Hey Fred, glad it helped.I could envision the following situation: since I am also a Circle Member filling other roles apart from acting as Facilitator I might have the feeling that the proposal is not grounded in reality and I don't understand the underlying tension. Then I could imagine to act a...

Spread of domains and/or policies
Hi,like this profound conversation about nuances of holarchic principles - thanks for all your perspectives and summaries, very helpful! Here's my additional thoughts:Where a domain HAS been delegated to a circle/role, from super-circles all the way from the anchor circle, the domain (and any acco...

Moving a Role to new Circle
Hey Carrie,A few thoughts that come up in addition to Bernard Marie's answer:Who is WE in your question? That might give you an indication where to start processing. Might be a tension of a role in one of the nested circles then use the rep link to process it to the super-circle. Practically in t...

Circle Interference
Hi Margaux,I do not see any reason why this should be invalid governance, although I would seriously consider if I walked down this road. But I can think of examples where the prescription of a role could be helpful. Eg during early implementation to have a Holacracy Coach in every circle. Still ...

Cross-Link - good, bad and ugly
Hey Dennis,Interesting. What was the reason for choosing this path? Could you elaborate bit more on how the setup of liaison roles differ from cross links and how they serve the purpose of linking/aligning circles? Thanks, Gerald

Facilitator Circle Audits
Hi Kevin, dealing with the same issue at the moment, but have no template yet.My thoughts are very much around creating a guide with process steps to follow through (similar to a GTD weekly review). Interested to schedule a call to ramp something up?- Gerald

Withholding permission to impact a domain
Hey Tiziano,I underline the points you are making (about invalidity), but have not quite got your underlying question in the starting post (nor can find any in your post ;-).I can see different questions, such as: 1) what is the technically correct way/answer re objections in case of access reque...

Withholding permission to impact a domain
Hey Tiziano,I agree, but it's not something that is constitutionally requested if I understand it correctly, as objection testing seems only to be restricted to governance meetings.right, that's my understanding as well.See Constitution 3.2.5 "Testing objections": "The Facilitator MAY test the va...

Holacracy and the Mutual Learning Model
Hey Keely,I guess your question is referring to the different spaces: role-ational space vs. relational space. Whereas Holacracy provides a great framework to solve tensions within role-space (eg creating clarity via governance etc.) and that definitely has a side-effect on how people show up (it...

Lead Link Not Fulfilling Accountabilities
Hey Alicia,One more thought: to strengthen the powershift and to decrease dependency on one rolefillers capacity to evaluate role-fit and provide feedback it seems more appropriate to establish processes of peer feedback. However, this is typically an App that comes with me mature practice and sh...

Withholding permission to impact a domain
Hey Tiziano,in my understanding: I'd always use the objection testing criteria if a phrase in the constitution, a policy or accountability refers to the term objection. e.g. as well if an accountability states "doing X after integrating objections of role Y"- Gerald

Shared or Temporary Roles
Hey Markus, apart from differentiating two roles as suggested by Bernard Marie I guess your question is also pointing to different focus of roles. That might for example be: "Role Front Desk filled by Person XY for (=focus) 8-12.00, by Person AB for 12-18.00" to indicate "shift work".The focus is ...

Objecting to unclear accountability
+1 @Chris Cowan One addition: I typically make that explicit by coaching people that "it might not be a valid objection but a valid tension though" and encourage them to sense into their need of adding it to the agenda.

integrated decision making process
Hi [@mention:550889693769022824],I guess you are pointing to a very important aspect in your last statement. You should probably clarify which role has the authority to take decisions about compensation and with what constraints. Otherwise any change of such policy would result in many "people" b...
