Cheat Sheets anyone?

Hi everyone,

while studying the Constitution I sensed the need for a tool that would allow me to recall the many concepts of Holacracy in a more graphical way. Holacracy is filled with concepts that have potential graphical counterparts (Circles, processes, roles, links, and more abstractly: containment, intersection, impact).

I started working on a deck for my personal use that would recap the entire Constitution one slide per article (I know that is a lot of compression, forgive me MR Komolgorov...) . The purpose is not to put all the concepts in one place, but to create graphical hooks between a cheat sheet and the chapters of the Constitution adding  maybe a sentence or two that would help recalling the concepts.

Maybe HolacracyOne has already made available something like that as training material  (I' haven't attended yet)

If anyone has already worked on something similar I’d like to know to avoid duplicating the effort…

ciao.

Andrea.

Hey, I think that's an awesome idea. Yeah, I had a project captured at one point to turn the constitution into like an infograph. It's not a priority for me now, but I'd love to provide input if needed...or at least see the finished product!

HI Chris, a Constitution infograph would be awesome, and ease the learning curve (or at least the "recalling curve" ;-) to be honest,  the artistic burden associated with the word "Infograph" clashes a bit with my skills, nevertheless I came up with a slide just to illustrate my idea (take it as an inaccurate excercise for now): Article 1

yeah that looks like a great start!!!

Hi Andrea,

This is a great idea!  I have struggled with the constitution and would love a way to make it more accessible.  The first article is really useful, I look forward to more and would be happy to help with this project.  My graphic skills are not great, but I am willing and motivated.  If I can contribute to this project, please let me know.

Thanks Dianne, I will keep you updated! I have several ideas,  My only constraint is, as usual, time availability....

We are also working on an infographic. It's purely in the pre-making stage at this point. I created a document with some key Holacracy elements that will hopefully be moved into a more graphical interface. This is the sheet that was created so far.

Hi Adrienne, unfortunately your link does not appear to be public,

I changed it, you should have access now. I forgot to do that before I posted the link. Thanks for pointing it out!

Hey Adrienne, yeah I think that's a great start too. I'd love to see the whole Constitution laid out in one infographic...but haven't tried to sketch it out. Though maybe I could help by sketching out some ideas and just posting a picture  for someone to develop?

So I showed the info-graphic that Andrea worked on to a couple of co-workers that don't really know the constitution too too well. They found it a little clumsy/confusing. I'm not sure if doing the entire constitution would be do-able because of all the intricacies that it might need. If we found a way to get the ideas clearer, it might work.

Also, I don't know if you guys have seen this but it is a YouTube that does an overview of the Holacracy book that Brian Robertson just put out. It's very interesting and explains concepts pretty well.

Hi Adrienne, I can understand their reaction...
The Constitution is very complex and to make it easier to learn-it with a graphical approach is a very hard task, that's why I was aiming at creating a tool that would help me recall the concepts (and that's why I mention the exact titles of the chapters and their exact numbers only once) , I can confirm that if that first slide already looks clumsy the second one (which I am working on now) is even worst as far as clarity is concerned, a good understanding and knowledge of the Constitution is a preprequisite for any of that to be useful. Maybe my 1 article : 1 slide ratio was a bit too much as far as information compression is concerned.

I am wondering if the best approach would instead be the opposite:

- create an infographic that explains Holacracy forgetting about the exact mapping to the Constitution structure, instead each concept could be mapped with a graphical placeholder, when approriate, to the corresponding article that mentions it (duplications allowed: ex: a graphical concept associated with one or more tags that say i.e. [1.2.3][4.5.1][3.4.1] mapping it to the spots in the constitution where that  concept is mentioned or addressed.)

The approach of the video is great, unfortunately it skips on the hardest part of delving into the detailed concepts that must be recalled (at least for my purpose), by staying at a higher, sort of "marketing level"

Yeah, I think just creating a mini infograph for each section makes the most sense....then just trying to tie those smaller sections together, graphically, on a bigger map. I can take a stab at drawing a section or two out with some rough images if someone else wants to work together on it.

The idea of a collection of mini infographs sound good. They could be linked in a Prezi format to turn it into a coherent whole. I can probably figure out the Prezi part if someone else wants to apply some design to Chris's sketches...

Here's another attempt, this time the target is the most hostile Article for recapping ;-)

Article 3.

semantic accuracy and information content still need refinement, but maybe something like this could be useful towards the construction of a constitution mind map/infographic

Still far from usable? what you think?

Hey great start! Still looks too complicated for me....but of course, it's not easy to unpack in a visual way. Like where it's headed though!!

Hi Andrea,

I salute your initiative, this one looks really challenging!  While I agree with Chris that it looks pretty complex, it is a great place to start. I'd like to use it with a group and see how they respond. I was able to follow it and it helped make Article 3 more accessible for me. Is it OK with you if I use it with a group and collect their feedback?

Thanks for your efforts!

Yes Dianne go ahead an use it as you wish, any feedback will be precious.

as far as information content is concerned Article 3 is a  beast that needs be tamed somehow ..  that slide tries to be one small step in that direction, happy that you liked it.

(Be careful there may be some typos or areas that could benefit from the contribution of native speakers)
